Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced

ACSR (Aluminium Conductor Steel Reinforced) is a widely used overhead conductor consisting of a core of galvanized steel strands surrounded by concentric layers of hard-drawn aluminum. This hybrid construction offers the high conductivity of aluminum and the superior tensile strength of steel, making ACSR conductors ideal for long-span, high-voltage transmission and distribution lines.
ACSR conductors are known for their durability, load-bearing capacity, and long service life, making them a preferred choice in overhead power lines, especially where extra strength is required.

Construction

ACSR conductors are made from a central steel core surrounded by one or more layers of hard-drawn aluminum strands. The steel core provides strength, while the aluminum strands carry the electrical current. The number of aluminum layers can vary based on the required mechanical strength and conductivity.

Key Features & Benefits

  • High Tensile Strength – Supports long-span installations with minimal sag
  • Excellent Conductivity – Carries large currents over long distances efficiently
  • Cost-Effective for Transmission Lines – Ideal balance of strength and performance
  • Reliable Mechanical Performance – Withstands wind loads, ice loads, and mechanical stress
  • Customizable – Available in different aluminum-to-steel ratios for varying requirements
  • Wide Temperature Range – Operates reliably from -20°C to +80°C
  • Galvanized Steel Core – Corrosion-resistant for added longevity

Applications

  • Overhead transmission lines (high voltage and extra high voltage)
  • Distribution networks in urban, rural, and remote areas
  • River crossings and long-span structures
  • Power evacuation from hydro, thermal, and wind power plants
  • Railways and metro electrification projects
