AAC (All Aluminium Conductor) is a type of overhead conductor made entirely of electrolytic grade aluminum. Known for its excellent conductivity, lightweight design, and cost-effectiveness, AAC is commonly used in urban and semi-urban power distribution networks where spans are short and strength requirements are moderate.
These conductors are ideal for low to medium voltage overhead transmission lines where conductivity and corrosion resistance are more important than tensile strength.
Construction
AAC conductors consist of one or more strands of hard-drawn, 99.5% pure aluminum wires. The strands are concentrically laid in single or multiple layers depending on the size and application.
Key Features & Benefits
- High Electrical Conductivity – Excellent current-carrying capacity due to pure aluminum
- Lightweight & Flexible – Simplifies installation and reduces structural load
- Corrosion Resistant – Particularly suitable for coastal and industrial zones
- Low Line Losses – Efficient power transmission over short spans
- Economical – Lower cost compared to ACSR or AAAC
- Ease of Installation – No special tools or techniques required
- Environment Friendly – Fully recyclable and sustainable material
Applications
Low and medium voltage overhead distribution lines
Urban and rural electrification networks
Power distribution in industrial zones
Short-span overhead lines
Substations and service connections
